Mended Mythology

Ceramic Artists: Kristen Cliffel, Eva Polzer, and P.J. Hargraves

A curated Exhibition and Symposium

The impetus for this event developed over several years. As part of my role in the Art Department at Baldwin Wallace University, I was responsible for organizing a fall exhibition each year. I saw this as an opportunity for more than simply presenting artwork. I wanted the exhibition to expose students and the regional community to inspiring and ambitious contemporary art, help recruit future students, and cultivate relationships between visiting artists, Baldwin Wallace University, and the art program where I directed the ceramics area.

Exhibition

Each artist made distinctly different yet thematically compatible artwork. Each of them utilized different methods of using the same material: (P.J)wheel throwing and altering, (Kristen)hollow building with coils, slabs, and molds, and (Eva)solid building through adding and subtracting from a solid mass of clay.

Getting The Word Out

I designed the front and back of the showcard, playing off of the implied narratives present in the artists work of predator and prey. Taking a cue from our Graphic design professor, I designed and had a banner produced because the location of this event was beside a highly trafficked road near a stoplight.
